Denmark’s Inno–CCUS is to launch 12 projects across two new funding pools (3 and 4).
They will be officially launched on 27 April at the DTU Technical University of Denmark.
Projects include GCO2M, which aims to turn grassland biomass into carbon-storing building materials; OMGCCS, which will monitor ground and surface water above CO2 storage; and IKKA-CCUS, which will demonstrate low-energy capture processes based on ikaite formation in seawater.
“If CCUS is going to deliver on the Danish climate goals, we need to get a few critical pieces right: materials, monitoring and cost,” according to a LinkedIn statement. “This group of projects takes on exactly that.”
Inno–CCUS is a public-private partnership and one of four mission-driven ‘Innomissions’ launched by the Danish government to help the country reach its goal of a 70% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and full climate neutrality by 2050.
In January, the EU allocated nearly €2m in project finance funding to support CCUS in Denmark’s Øresund region.
At the end of last year the Danish Energy Agency approved CO2 storage at the Nini West field offshore Denmark, allowing the three licensees behind the Greensand Future project to begin operations.
